The hottest fashion trends to look out for this fall

Written by Jailynn Taylor

Fall is here! Are you ready to refresh your closet for the season?

This year’s fall fashion trends are giving us intense bold color, comfy knits for every occasion, fun layerables and puffed and quilted everything. We’ve got you covered for some of our favorite fall 2021 seasonal resets.

Saturated hues & tones

Pastels and saturated hues in fall — groundbreaking.

Usually our color palette changes to match the mustards and copper tones of the leaves falling from the trees. This year, we are staying vibrant and fresh for a bit longer as we move into the cooler season.

Try opting for a lemon yellow or a lilac to pair as a pop of color with your toned down pieces to make a statement. Or have fun with it, and go full complimentary with a cobalt blue and marigold look.

Tailored & cropped

Tailored match sets had us in a chokehold all summer, and they’re not done with us yet.

We see this trend evolve with more cropped length blazers, giving us more midriff with fitted tailoring to the body. This look is also replicated in cropped button-downs, both with sleeves and sleeveless. These cropped tops are matched back to tailored slacks and maxi and midi skirts.

This is a very fresh take on the tailored suit trend, but also gives us all the “Clueless” vibes.

InVESTed

Dark academia and collegiate school girl aesthetics have single-handedly brought back the vest.

In an update for fall, the vest is now offered in a sweater tank silhouette with intricate Fair Isle patterns. You can also find it as a traditional suit vest in a pinstripe or neutral solid, taking us back to the early 2000s.

The suit is coming back in all components in preparation for hybrid work.

Mini to the midi

The mini skirt took over this summer, but as temperatures begin to drop, so will the hemlines.

The midi skirt is a staple piece that should be in everyone’s closet this fall. Offered in light satin fabrics or heavier pleated leathers, they are great for pairing with your cozy cashmere sweater or an easy graphic tee.

If you want a look with this trend that will get you a second glance, try pairing it with the next trend to really elevate your look.

Vibrant tights

As we transition from mini to midi skirts, the way to stay warm when still rocking the mini is tights but with a bit more personality than your everyday nude and black.

The saturated pops of color didn’t skip over our layering undergarment. Try matching your mini to a bubblegum pink pair of tights, or go for something more playful with all-over printed smiley faces.

The possibilities are truly endless with this trend.

Cozy knits

Despite the wild year we’ve had, one thing remains true: shoppers prioritize comfort.

Put down the stiff woven tops and the crispy tailored slacks and try out a knitted match set or maxi dress. These knits are more elevated than your everyday sweater but are still cozy and can be worn head to toe for maximum office or at-home comfort.

These cozy wools are also worn as classic maxi silhouettes that hug the body in a flattering and feminine way — moving away from previous years of oversized, boyfriend-fitted silhouette.

Puffed & quilted

Puffs and quilting everywhere!

The puffer coat has taken over. You can find a quilted puffer purse to match your quilted puffer skirt. And if you don’t prefer a whole coat, you can go for a quilted puffer vest for those not-so-chilly days.

This trend is also coming in bold and bright shades to match your under-pieces, so this is not your grandma’s puffer jacket. Even though your outfit may be covered and cozy, you are still making a statement.

There are endless possibilities to what looks you can create, from vibrant, bold statement colors to puffed details and cropped blazers. What fall updates will you be making to your wardrobe?
